The Ryder Cup as a Technology Showcase

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is set to highlight the transformative power of AI, advanced networking, and private cloud technology at one of the world’s premier sporting traditions – the Ryder Cup.

For nearly a century, the Ryder Cup has brought together top golfers from Europe and the United States in a showcase of elite competition and global spectacle. In recent years, the tournament has also become a testbed for cutting-edge technology and in 2025, HPE is playing a pivotal role in making it one of the most advanced sporting events ever staged.

Building a World-Class Temporary Network

To replace a competitor’s system used in past tournaments, HPE deployed:

  • 170 Aruba Networking CX Switches
  • 650 Aruba Networking Wi-Fi 6E Access Points
  • 25 Aruba Networking UXI Sensors

All of these are managed through HPE Aruba Networking Central, an AI-powered solution providing real-time optimization, visibility and security. This ensures fans and staff can move throughout the course without interruption even as network demands spike and shift dynamically.

Connected Intelligence Center

At the heart of tournament operations is the Connected Intelligence Center, designed by HPE Advisory and Professional Services. The centerpiece tool, the Operational Intelligence Dashboard, aggregates real-time insights from diverse sources, including:

  • Ticket scans and weather reports
  • Merchandise and concession sales
  • GPS tracking of golf carts
  • Queue monitoring and crowd density
  • 67 AI-enabled camera feeds across the course
  • Network performance data

Using HPE Private Cloud AI, co-developed with NVIDIA organizers, gain instant visibility into operations, enabling smarter, data-driven decision-making.

Real-World AI in Action

The dashboard unlocks powerful new capabilities:

  • Retail Optimization: AI cameras analyze shopper flow in the massive merchandise tent (the size of two football fields) to forecast revenue, manage wait times and improve efficiency
  • Crowd Analytics: Real-time monitoring of line queues and crowd density ensures smoother movement and resource allocation
  • Video Search and Summarization: An AI-tagged repository enables staff to instantly retrieve footage, locate key plays and create highlight reels.

Importantly, data sovereignty and security are protected by keeping sensitive information – such as point-of-sale transactions – localized within HPE Private Cloud AI rather than exposed to the public internet.

Generative AI Assistant for Staff

Debuting at the 2025 Ryder Cup is the Ops AI Assistant, a generative AI tool built on large language models. This assistant allows tournament staff to query documents, manuals and live operational data in plain language. Whether a volunteer needs quick instructions or a manager seeks real-time updates, the GenAI assistant improves speed, accuracy anb efficiency across operations.

Sustainability Through Intelligent Infrastructure

HPE is also advancing sustainability at the Ryder Cup by using AI-driven efficiency within Aruba Networking Central. Equipment in low-use areas is placed into standby or power-saving mode during off-peak times, cutting energy cost and reducing environmental impact without sacrificing performance.

The Bigger Picture

By delivering real-time insights to a global event of this scale, HPE is proving how the same AI-powered networking and private cloud solutions can help enterprises optimize operations, control costs and enhance customer experiences.

The Ryder Cup has become more than a golf tournament – it's a living laboratory for the future of AI in enterprise and entertainment. HPE also continues to lead the way in delivering secure, scalable and intelligent infrastructure for the world’s most demanding environments.
