Apple M5 chip, Setting a New Benchmark for AI Processing on Apple Silicon     

Delivering over four times the peak GPU computed power of the M4, M5 features a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator built into every core, a more powerful CPU, a faster Neural Engine, and enhanced unified memory bandwidth.  

Apple’s M5 Bring Unmatched Performance    

The M5 chip marks a major advancement in AI performance and efficiency across every aspect of Apple Silicon. Built on third generation 3-nanometer technology, M5 features a new 10-core GPU architecture with Neural Accelerators in every core, delivering over 4x the peak GPU compute performance of M4 and up to 45% faster graphics with third-generation ray tracing.  

The 10-core CPU combines up to four performance cores and six efficiency cores, achieving up to 15% faster multithread performance, while the upgraded 16-core Neural Engine and enhanced media engine push AI and creative workloads even further. With 153GB/s unified memory bandwidth — nearly 30% higher than before — M5 delivers industry-leading power efficiency to the new Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro. 

A Next-Generation GPU Engine Built for AI and Graphics  

The M5 introduces a next-generation 10-core GPU architecture, purpose-built for AI performance and advanced graphics. Each core integrates a dedicated Neural Accelerator, delivering over 4x the peak GPU compute of M4 and more than 6x compared to M1 for AI workloads. With M5, the new 14-inch Macbook Pro and iPad Pro achieve dramatically faster AI-driven performance — from diffusion model rendering in Draw Things to running large language models locally with webAI. 

The next-generation GPU and upgraded shader cores in M5 deliver up to 30% faster graphics performance than M4 and up to 2.5x faster than M1. Apple’s third-generation ray-tracing engine boosts graphics performance by up to 45% in ray-traced applications. Combined with rearchitected second-generation dynamic caching, the GPU enables smoother gameplay, more lifelike 3D visuals, and quicker rendering for demanding graphic workflows. On Apple Vision Pro, M5 powers 10% more pixels on the micro-OLED displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz, offering sharper detail, smoother motion, and reduced blur. 

The M5 GPU architecture is designed for deep integration with Apple’s software ecosystem. Apps leveraging built-in frameworks and APIs — including Core ML, Metal Performance Shaders, and Metal 4 — automatically benefit from instant performance gains. Developers can further unlock the GPU’s potential by programming the Neural Accelerators directly through Metal 4’s Tensor APIs, enabling highly optimized AI and graphic workflows. 

A Faster Neural Engine Optimized for AI Intelligence    

The enhanced 16-core Neural Engine delivers exceptional AI performance with remarkable power efficiency, working seamlessly with the Neural Accelerators in the CPU and GPU to make M5 fully optimized for AI-driven tasks. On Apple Vision Pro, AI-powered capabilities — such as transforming 2D photos into immersive spatial scenes or generating a realistic Persona — now run faster and more efficiently than ever.  

The M5 Neural Engine further accelerates Apple Intelligence, powering faster and more responsive on-device AI experiences. Tools like Image Playground benefit from improved speed, while Apple Intelligence models leverage the Neural Engine’s efficiency and M5’s expanded unified memory for smoother performance. Developers using Apple’s Foundation Models framework will also experience faster, more optimized results. 

Enhanced Memory for Greater AI and Creative Power     

M5 features 153GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, a nearly 30% boost over M4 and more than 2x that of M1. Its unified memory architecture allows the entire chip — CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine — to access a single, high-speed memory pool, enabling larger AI models to run entirely on device. This delivers faster performance across multithreads of tasks, creative workflows, and AI processing. With up to 32GBof unified memory, users can effortlessly handle demanding projects in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro while multitasking or uploading large files in the background.
